How We Were Arrested & Our Plane Grounded In Kano– Amaechi

The Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Monday recounted his ordeal and those of his colleagues in Kano on Sunday after a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, was named the new emir of the powerful Kano emirate.

Mr. Amaechi and a few other dignitaries were in Kano to pay condolence visits to the Kano state government over the death of Emir Ado Bayero.

But sources also said Mr. Amaechi and a few other chieftains of the opposition All Progressives Congress also poured into Kano after receiving intelligence that some northern traditional rulers sympathetic to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were putting pressure on the kingmakers and Governor Rabiu Kwankawaso to overlook Mr. Sanusi and appoint his rival to the coveted throne.

Responding to a PREMIUM TIMES enquiry on Monday morning, Mr. Amaechi said after visiting Governor Kwankwaso, he, along with other dignitaries, made for the Aminu Kano Airport where his chartered aircraft was parked.

He said immediately his team entered the airport buildings preparatory to boarding the plane back to Abuja, authorities locked all the doors to the complex, holding him and his colleagues hostage.

The plane was also impounded, he said.

“The Kano governor called the airport commandant that we should at least be allowed to leave the building but the commandant refused saying he had an order from above not to let us out,” the governor said. “We had to force one of the doors open to get away.”

He said after they escaped from the airport, the team devised a means of hurrying out of Kano for fear they might be attacked by thugs sponsored by the federal government.

“So we quickly got a car, bought fuel and started driving towards Abuja. We sold a dummy to the airport people and a few others that we were returning to the Kano Government House. The governor was also expecting us. But we were far gone. I personally drove the car and all of us had to switch off our phones so no one would know our whereabouts.

“I drove for five hours and we arrived Abuja at 2 a.m. We were not afraid of armed robbers or anyone attacking us on the road. We were only afraid that the authorities could plant people on the road to waylay and attack us. But thank God we arrived safe.

In the car Mr. Amaechi drove from Kano to Abuja were a former governor of Gombe state, now Senator Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Kwara state, now Senator Shaaba Lafiagi, and a former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Baraje.

“I have been shouting that we are in a dictatorship, people thought I’m joking or exaggerating,” Mr. Amaechi said. “At least we can all see what is playing out.”

So Weird: Meet The Girl With The Longest Tongue In The World (Photos

Chanel Tapper, a student from California, USA, has the world's longest tongue, measuring 9.75 cm (3.8 in), from tip to top lip.
Her lizard-like tongue is twice as long as the average, as long as the world's largest cockroach, as wide as your palm, the same volume as a quarter pounder hamburger and around the same length as an iPhone!!

Here what she told Guinness World Records about her record-breaking body part in an interview.
  • When did you first realise that your tongue was longer than average? What happened?
I was eight and my mom and I were taking pictures for Halloween.
In one of the pictures we stuck our tongues out. I noticed I had a long tongue when the pictures from Halloween were printed and I saw it...but I guess it became apparent in middle school when people started commenting on it.
Why I stuck my tongue out at people, I don't know... I'm goofy! But there are still some people from back then that only remember me because of my tongue!
  • What reaction do you get from people when they see it?
For most people it's a jaw-dropping experience. It's like they don't believe what they see and nie out of ten times, they'll ask me to do it again.
Some girls/women have screamed/jumped back. If there are other people around, the person who saw my tongue will tell the nearest next to them.
I'll often get asked questions like, "can you touch your nose or elbow?" and, "do you choke people when you kiss them?"
But always, everyone in one way or another is entertained by seeing it.
  • Despite the excitement of having achieved a Guinness World Record, if you had the choice would you keep your long tongue or choose to have a 'normal' one?
This is my normal tongue. I was born like this, so no choice would be necessary.
  • Are there any explanations for your long tongue such as other members of your family having the same trait or was it just by chance?
My mom has a long tongue, but not like my length. I believe I was born without something underneath that prevents it from extending far.
  • Does it affect your relationships in any way? Do you currently have a boyfriend and if so, what does he think?
It does. Most guys that know or already see it automatically have their mind in the gutter, and so do some females. I don't have a boyfriend, but the last guy I dated didn't make it that big of a deal, and I really liked him for that....see more photos
